UNDP/Zambia: Small Scale Cross-Border Trader Associations and Organisations

About

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) hereby invites interested Small Scale Cross Border Trader associations and organisations to submit Proposals to participate in developing projects that strengthen resilience of livelihoods, that are environmentally sound, and nature-based solutions led by communities.

The proposals should be focused on the following:

  • Improving the economic opportunities to female cross-border traders.

  • Alternative business that are not reliant on the cross-border trade.

  • Businesses that are environmentally friendly with positive social impact on the communities.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is implementing a project which seeks to address the economic challenges faced by women SSCBTs in Kasumbalesa, Chipata and Livingstone border areas. The project seeks to contribute towards improved capacity and resilience of SSCBTs through improved livelihoods, incomes, and harnessing opportunities despite COVID.

Funding Information
  • Each organization can be awarded with only one grant, worth $60,000 per grant, $30,000 per project. In total, a maximum of 3 Grants will be selected for award one from each targeted district.

Objectives

The objective of the UNDP Call for Proposals is to enhance the resilience of Small-Scale Cross Border Traders in Kasumbalesa, Chipata and Livingstone through improved livelihoods, incomes, and harnessing opportunities amidst the negative socio-economic impact of COVID-19.

More specifically, priority will given to the Grant Proposals that aim to achieve the following goals:

  • Promote the participation of women who hope to improve their opportunities and reducing their vulnerabilities.

  • Alternative livelihoods to increase their business opportunities.

  • Alternative livelihoods that are environmentally friendly and have positive social impact on the communities.

Outputs

The implementation of the above project will result in the following outputs:

  • Strengthened capacity of 500 female SSCBTs in Kasumbalesa, Chipata and Livingstone to improve their opportunities and reducing their vulnerabilities.

  • Strengthen the resilience of 500 female SSCBTs in Kasumbalesa, Chipata and Livingstone through the provision of alternative livelihoods and financial support to increase their business opportunities.

Eligibility :
  • To be eligible for this call, cooperatives or related groups must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the selection:

  • An organization or association officially registered in Zambia (applications to be accompanied by proof of registration under the name of the applicant signed and stamped by the relevant authorities).

  • All members of the organization or association must be full paid-up members of the Cross Border Traders Association (CBTA).

  • Be established in the targeted districts (Livingstone, Kasumbalesa and Chipata)

  • Membership of the association must comprise of at least 70% female representation (Full list of members with their NRCs should be submitted as part of the application process).

  • Have a valid bank account open under the name of the applicant indicating Bank Name, Account Number, Branch Name, Swift Code, Sort Code and TPIN number (an official letter from the Bank should be attached confirming the Bank details).
