About

Are you an organisation led by young women, LBTQI and non-binary people, women living with disabilities, or other minoritised groups? Are you a feminist or women’s rights organisation in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine or Yemen, the Horn of Africa, the Sahel Region, French speaking Africa? Is your organisation working on body and health rights, economic security and justice, leadership, participation and peace, or on climate justice issues? If so, the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF)invites you to submit an application to our next call for applications.

Details
  • In this call for applications, the African Women's Development Fund (AWDF) will be awarding grants under the Leading from the South (LFS) Initiative. LFS grants are to support projects in Africa and Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Yemen.

  • Under this call, they will be prioritizing applications for work in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine or Yemen, the Horn of Africa, the Sahel Region, and French speaking Africa from women led organizations led by young women, LBTQI and non-binary people , women living with disabilities and other minority groups.

  • The focus of the work in applications for LFS funding should be advocacy, though they will consider costs for service delivery if they represent less than 20% of your total application budget to AWDF.

  • You can apply for up to 50% of your verified 2021 income. For example, if your confirmed income for 2021 was USD80,000 you can apply for a maximum of up to USD40,000 per year. If your confirmed income for 2021 was $ 40,000, you can apply for a maximum of up to $10,000.

Funding Information

They have three types of grants – you can only submit one application to this call for proposals:

  • Pamoja: you can apply for a maximum of US$500,000 per annum for 2 years

  • Ananse: you can apply for a maximum of US$200,000 per annum for 2 years

  • Yalla: you can apply for a maximum of US$50,000 per year for up to 3 years.

Eligibility :
  • AWDF will consider applications from interested women led organizations who have been registered for at least three years (before June 2019).

  • AWDF defines a woman led organization as an organization whose Board Chair and Chief Executive/Director are both women or non-binary, and where at least 70% of the board and staff members of the organization are women or non-binary.

  • AWDF does not fund organizations that are not based and headquartered in Africa and/or organizations that are not led by African women (senior staff and Board)

  • AWDF doesn't generally accept applications from organizations that haven't been registered for at least three years. In extremely rare circumstances however, AWDF will consider applications from organizations that have been registered for less than three years. Some examples are organizations led by and focused on particularly marginalized groups of women and girls, including women and girls living with disabilities, LBTQI+ women and girls, sex workers, refugees and migrant women, women living with HIV/AIDS, young feminists and other imposed marginalities.
