The International Renaissance Foundation has announced "Human rights, dignity and security in conditions of war" Competition to expand the capabilities of civil society organizations to help victims, record information about crimes, influence the formation of policies and practices that have an impact on human rights, security and justice.

The International Renaissance Foundation (IRF), with the financial support of the EU, launched the project "European Renaissance of Ukraine: a civil society initiative for sustainability and recovery".

The goal of this project is to strengthen the contribution of Ukrainian civil society to the political dialogue regarding EU integration and the restoration of Ukraine.

The International Renaissance Foundation has been a Framework Partner of the European Union in Ukraine since December 2019.

The announced competition is aimed at supporting the activities of civil society organizations that protect fundamental values, freedoms and human rights, help victims of hostilities, record, document, archive war events and create conditions for increasing the level of security in local communities and in the digital space.

Thematic Priorities
  • Human rights:

    • Providing legal assistance to victims of war (including in foreign jurisdictions);

    • Supporting work on documenting war crimes, in particular within the framework of existing public coalitions;

    • Analysis and assessment of judicial practice regarding prosecution of those guilty of war crimes, collaborationism;

    • Formation of joint approaches to work and joint activities of a wide range of public human rights organizations and initiatives;

    • Assistance to national institutions of the criminal justice system in the formation of strategies for bringing war criminals to justice, improving the practices of investigating international crimes, and providing adequate support to victims.

  • The human dimension of security, security in communities:

    • The development of people-centered policies and practices at the local level, which are focused on the formation of a sense of security;

    • Organization of a system of interaction in communities, involvement of members of local communities in activities to strengthen security and mutual support;

    • Assessment of security risks and formulation of proposals to reduce their impact on community life;

    • Developing approaches to measuring and evaluating the level of security.

  • Digital security and protection of digital rights:

    • Informational and educational activities that increase awareness of digital security and digital rights, in particular aimed at Ukrainians located in the temporarily occupied territories;

    • Support of state institutions in the development of digital security policies and practices;

    • Risk assessment of the use of digital solutions and technologies that may have a negative impact on human rights, further advocacy for their limitation.

Funding Information
  • The minimum amount of the grant is 400,000 hryvnias.

  • The maximum amount of the grant is 1,200,000 hryvnias.

  • The total budget of the competition is 26,720,000 hryvnias.

  • The project implementation period is up to 9 months.

Eligibility

  • The following are invited to participate in the competition: civil society organizations in various organizational and legal forms, registered in accordance with Ukrainian legislation as non-profit.

  • Compliance with the thematic priorities of the competition;

  • Experience and expertise of organizations;

  • Confirmed cooperation with other partners;

  • The realism of achieving the expected results and compliance with the stated goal;

  • Correspondence of the budget to the planned activity and the expected results.
