About

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) provides grant support to small projects implemented directly by local communities, including NGOs, jaamats and other public organizations, on such thematic priorities as biodiversity conservation, adaptation and mitigation of climate change impacts, prevention of land degradation and sustainable forest management, protection of the quality of international waters, reduction of chemical and household waste.

Funding Information
  • The project budget must be in US dollars, and the amount requested from the GEF SGP must not exceed US$25,000.

Tasks and Activities
  • Project proposals submitted to this competition must include the following tasks and activities: 

    • Conduct meetings, consultations and seminars at the national and regional levels, based on the results of which an assessment of the resilience of the socio-ecological landscape to external influences will be made;

    • Based on consultations, identify and propose areas/priorities within the selected landscape where SGP projects can be implemented to help address the issues identified in the landscape;

    • The key outcome of the project will be the development of a COMDEKS Landscape and Marine Strategy (CPLS) for the Issyk-Kul region;

    • Provide assistance to interested organizations in developing and submitting project proposals to the SGP to obtain funding;

    • Conduct an evaluation of the results of COMDEKS projects upon their completion. 

Eligibility

  • Project proposals will be assessed by the National Coordination Committee of the GEF SGP in Kyrgyzstan according to the following criteria: 

    • Registration of the applicant in the Kyrgyz Republic;

    • Experience of the applicant and experts proposed for involvement in the project in the field of global ecology, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and landscape management;

    • The applicant's proven potential to conduct research with high quality final materials, to collect and analyze data, to develop strategies and projects, as well as the ability to master, analyze, and synthesize a large amount of information in a limited time;

    • Proven experience of the applicant and experts proposed for involvement in the project in working with government agencies, civil society and public organizations, as well as international development agencies, in particular in the field of environmental protection. Experience working with indigenous peoples and communities living near specially protected natural areas will be an advantage;

    • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills;

    • Fluency in Russian and Kyrgyz languages, and compliance of the professional experience and education of the experts proposed for involvement in the project. Fluency in English will be an advantage, as the Grantee is expected to study documents in English.
