About

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking proposals for the Myanmar Climate Change Alliance Programme to scale up the capacity building of local communities’ forest user to adapt and mitigate the impact of Climate Change.

Purpose

• The project will emphasize practical, solution-driven interventions, such as mangrove restoration integrated with aquaculture, climate-financing mechanisms (e.g. carbon credits), and the development of ecovillages as model sites for climate-smart solutions.

• The key objective is to promote sustainable and alternative development opportunities for local communities, ensuring the long-term sustainability of mangrove restoration efforts. This will include practical field demonstration plots, such as silvofishery pond models and other integrated mangrove aquaculture systems, which will contribute to restoring land carrying capacity, improving water quality, and demonstrating sustainable economic practices. These demonstration models will use sustainable aquaculture techniques and organic production systems to generate economic value while maintaining ecological integrity. 

• Additionally, the project will focus on enhancing community livelihoods by supporting the development of value-added non-timber mangrove products and promoting alternative income-generating resources that are compatible with climate change adaptation and resilience.

Key Objectives

• Promote the ecovillage model as a central approach to integrating mangrove restoration, aquaculture, and sustainable livelihoods. The model will demonstrate how communities can thrive using climate-smart, environmentally friendly practices.

• Develop practical demonstration plots within the ecovillages, including silvofishery ponds, agroecological farming, and biodiversity -enhancing practices, to provide sustainable economic value while contributing to environmental restoration.

• Foster knowledge exchange on the design and implementation of the ecovillage model, sharing lessons learned through field demonstrations and scaling this approach across the Delta region and beyond.

• To develop a policy brief, capturing lessons learned and key recommendations, in collaboration with UN-Habitat and UNU-Flores.

Scope of Work

• The activity will employ a participatory approach, combining theoretical sessions with practical, hands-on learning. The selected partner will integrate workshops, fieldwork, and collaborative group activities, ensuring that participants can apply the knowledge gained in real-world settings. The ecovillage model will serve as the foundation for practical demonstrations, showcasing how communities can adopt and replicate sustainable practices.

• Key Methodologies for Implementation:

  • Workshops: Interactive discussions and presentations focusing on sustainable mangrove ecosystem restoration, aquaculture practices, and climate-smart livelihoods. These workshops will be instrumental in co-designing the ecovillage model with community members, incorporating their input and adapting the model to local contexts.

  • Training Materials: Manuals, brochures, and visual aids will be developed to support the training sessions. These materials will cover topics such as mangrove restoration, sustainable aquaculture, biodiversity enhancement, and the design of ecovillages that integrate sustainable, climate-resilient livelihoods.

  • Audited company financial statements (balance sheet and income statement) and auditors report for the last two years

• Exclusive bank account

  • Is the organization willing and able to have a separate bank account for the funds provided by UN-Habitat?
