The Operational Management and Maintenance of the Bourj Hammoud Community Center project focuses on strengthening municipal services and enhancing inclusive community infrastructure in response to ongoing socio-economic challenges in Bourj Hammoud.

The focus areas, objectives, priorities, and themes of this initiative include municipal recovery through strengthened public infrastructure, promotion of social cohesion and community resilience, provision of inclusive recreational and social spaces, operational management and maintenance of a multi-purpose community facility, support for capacity-building activities and community-driven programming, and alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

The initiative is being implemented in Bourj Hammoud, a densely populated urban area in Lebanon, through the efforts of the United Nations Office for Project Services under the Sustainable Integrated Municipal Actions (SiMA) project. The project is funded by the Government of Germany through the KfW Development Bank, supporting municipal recovery and improved public service delivery in partnership with the Municipality of Bourj Hammoud. The project has a maximum grant allocation of up to $120,000.

The Bourj Hammoud Community Center is located near the western corner of the Bourj Hammoud Stadium, on land owned by the Municipality of Bourj Hammoud. The center is designed as a flexible and inclusive public space intended to host diverse community activities, encourage participation, and expand access to social and recreational services for residents, particularly vulnerable groups.

Once operational, the community center will function as a multi-purpose municipal hub that supports structured community engagement, capacity-building initiatives, and locally driven programmes. It is envisioned to work in synergy with nearby sports and public facilities, particularly the adjacent stadium and sports courts, to strengthen outreach and promote integrated sports-based and social development activities.

By combining infrastructure development with community-focused programming, the initiative aims to reinforce local resilience and foster stronger social ties among residents of Bourj Hammoud. It also emphasizes sustainable operational management and maintenance to ensure the long-term functionality and accessibility of the center as a shared civic asset.
