Applications open for Economic Development Grants 2026
About
The Global Climbing Initiative (GCI) invites applications for its Economic Development Grants 2026, designed to support community-driven projects that foster sustainable economic growth through climbing-related initiatives. The program aims to generate income, create jobs, expand tourism opportunities, and strengthen small businesses connected to climbing. By promoting local ownership and entrepreneurship, the grants help build resilient climbing economies that align with community priorities and long-term stability.
Projects may include entrepreneurship programs, workforce development, guiding and certification, sustainable climbing tourism, and social enterprises linked to climbing. Eligible activities encompass guide training and certification, development of local guiding businesses, community climbing festivals that stimulate local economic activity, climbing instructor training, and initiatives that expand sustainable tourism opportunities. Grants of up to USD 2,000 are available, with each project implemented over a six-month period within the current grant cycle. Target beneficiaries include local climbing organizations and communities seeking to leverage climbing as a pathway to sustainable economic opportunity.
Eligibility
Applications must be submitted by local climbing organizations with demonstrated climbing-related impact and proposed by a local leader of that organization. Projects must be directly related to indoor or outdoor climbing and located outside the continental United States, or be led by an Indigenous community within the United States. Proposals will be evaluated based on their potential to deliver measurable economic outcomes, strengthen local organizations, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of climbing economies.
