The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) invites proposals for research projects that generate rigorous evidence on how regulation and fiscal policy shape economic opportunities for women and men across Latin America and the Caribbean. The program focuses on areas including regulatory simplification and digital government, financial regulation and access to credit and formal markets, tax design and economic participation, and labor regulation and formal employment.

The initiative seeks to strengthen understanding of how policies such as business registration, credit access, tax rules, parental leave, and labor measures influence economic participation and outcomes differently for women and men. Studies must employ quantitative methods capable of identifying causal relationships and producing policy-relevant evidence. Research may examine reforms affecting formalization, compliance costs, access to public services, finance, employment, income, job quality, and earnings.

Funding will support projects that contribute to more effective and inclusive policies, helping governments and institutions expand equitable economic opportunities across the region.

Eligibility

Independent researchers and teams affiliated with public or private entities, universities, or research centers are eligible to apply. All team members must be citizens of one of the 48 IDB member countries and must comply with the eligibility requirements outlined in the call. Collaboration with IDB Group specialists is permitted, provided external research teams lead the proposals.
