Apply Now: Smart Glasses for Mapping Challenge

Grant Size $10,000 to $100,000   ,   Closing Date

About

The HMGCC Co-Creation programme invites innovators and organizations to develop advanced smart-glasses mapping technology to support reconnaissance missions. The project focuses on processing video and audio data captured by commercially available smart glasses through an edge-computing device to generate high-fidelity 3D maps of operational environments. Proposed solutions should assess data generated by smart glasses, identify potential data access and transmission pathways, produce high-quality daytime imagery in urban settings, and demonstrate the creation of accurate 3D maps from camera-derived information. Additional value may be provided through low-light imaging capabilities, integration of audio-based reconnaissance data, evaluation of multiple smart-glasses manufacturers, and the fusion of visual and audio data to address mapping challenges such as reflections and obstructed views. The project is expected to deliver a demonstrable proof of concept at a minimum Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 and include analysis of manufacturers’ technology roadmaps and emerging sensor capabilities over the next three years. Successful applicants may receive funding of up to £60,000 (excluding VAT) to cover personnel, materials, overheads, and related indirect costs. Projects must be completed within 12 weeks.

Eligibility

Applications are open to sole innovators, industry partners, academic institutions, and research organizations of any size. Security clearance is not required to participate in this funding opportunity. Proposals will be assessed on their ability to meet the technical requirements of the challenge, including the capability to process smart-glasses sensor data, generate high-quality imagery and 3D mapping outputs, deliver a proof of concept at TRL 4 or above, and provide meaningful insights into future smart-glasses technology developments. Applicants should demonstrate the technical expertise, feasibility, and innovation necessary to achieve the project objectives within the specified timeframe and budget.
