Call for Applications: Digital Democracy Initiative
About
The Digital Democracy Initiative (DDI) and the CIVICUS Crisis Response Fund (CRF) provide rapid-response resiliency grants to strengthen local civil society actors confronting civic space challenges in the digital age. The program supports initiatives that enhance digital resilience, safeguard inclusive democracy, and address threats to civic rights and engagement through technology. Funding is directed toward activities that enable civil society organizations, groups, and social movements to continue their work despite digital threats or restrictions.
Grants are available to applicants based in Global South countries eligible for Official Development Assistance (ODA). Funding ranges from up to USD 10,000 for single-organization applications to USD 20,000 for joint proposals involving two or more organizations. Projects must be implemented within six months. Applications are accepted year-round and reviewed on a rolling basis.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants include local civil society organizations, groups, and social movements operating in ODA-recipient countries. Applicants must demonstrate that they are facing a verifiable imminent civic space threat or emergency and propose resiliency-focused responses or activities. Applicants are required to have an organizational bank account and the capacity to plan and track the use of CRF–DDI funding. Organizations that have received support from the CIVICUS Crisis Response Fund within the past two years are not eligible to apply.
