EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program for Zimbabwean Students
About
The U.S. Embassy in Harare is launching the 2026–2027 EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program to expand access to U.S. higher education for academically talented Zimbabwean students. The program provides comprehensive support for undergraduate and graduate study applications, including coverage of standardized test fees, application costs, certifications, and related expenses. It also funds intensive advising on admissions, financial aid, online degree pathways, and accredited alternative education options. In addition, the program supports travel and pre-departure arrangements for students admitted to U.S. institutions, while offering logistical and programmatic assistance for EducationUSA activities across Zimbabwe. The initiative will be implemented in two phases, with a total grant size of up to US $54,000. Phase One focuses on application-related costs and advising, while Phase Two covers travel and pre-departure expenses for successful applicants. Both phases may be delivered virtually to ensure nationwide access. Administrative costs of up to 10 percent of the award are allowable.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants include Zimbabwean not-for-profit organizations, civil society groups, think tanks, non-governmental organizations, and public or private educational institutions. Applicants must demonstrate capacity to administer the program, manage funds responsibly, and provide logistical support for EducationUSA activities. Selection of student participants will be guided by criteria established by the Public Diplomacy Section and EducationUSA advisers in Zimbabwe, who will oversee the Opportunity Funds Program selection committee. Proposals will be evaluated on organizational experience, ability to deliver program phases effectively, and commitment to supporting academically talented students in overcoming financial barriers to U.S. higher education.
