The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) invites Expressions of Interest from associations in Algeria to strengthen community health awareness and prevention interventions. The program aims to enhance the capacity of civil society organizations to improve community-based health promotion, strengthen the role of community health facilitators, and expand outreach to vulnerable populations across Algeria. Supported activities include mapping and profiling community health NGOs, assessing the needs of community health workers, developing real-time health facility profiling systems, standardizing and strengthening training programs for community health agents, and improving retention, deployment, and professional development mechanisms. The initiative also supports health promotion campaigns implemented in collaboration with school health units and maternal and child health services, including the establishment and reinforcement of health clubs that promote healthy behaviors and community engagement among children, youth, and families. In addition, the program seeks to strengthen coordination between NGOs, community health workers, and primary healthcare facilities through improved referral systems, communication channels, joint planning, and community participation mechanisms. The call further supports the design and testing of sustainable livelihood and entrepreneurship models for youth engaged in community health outreach, including financial literacy, savings, digital financial inclusion, mentoring, coaching, peer support, and access to livelihood opportunities. The indicative total funding available under this call is USD 15,000,000 for capacity-building, health promotion, community health systems strengthening, and livelihood development activities in Algeria. Project duration has not been specified by the donor.

Eligibility

Applicants must be associations legally established and operating in Algeria with demonstrated experience in community health, health promotion, community outreach, or related public health activities. Organizations should have the operational and technical capacity to design and implement community-based health awareness and prevention interventions, collaborate with health institutions and local stakeholders, and support community health workers and vulnerable populations. Proposals will be assessed based on their relevance to the program objectives, organizational capacity and experience, quality of the proposed approach, potential for sustainable community impact, ability to strengthen community health systems and partnerships, and the effectiveness of strategies for engaging youth and vulnerable groups. Activities involving the sale of health products or services or the charging of fees to households for community health services are not eligible under this program.
