About
The UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Conservation recognizes outstanding contributions by individuals, groups, institutions, or organizations that have demonstrated significant achievements in the management or conservation of the environment. Established with the support of the Sultanate of Oman, the biennial prize aims to promote sustainable environmental practices in line with UNESCO’s objectives, particularly within the framework of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme. It honors initiatives that advance environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable use of natural resources, while encouraging innovative approaches and knowledge sharing at local, regional, and global levels.
Eligibility
The prize is open to individuals, groups of individuals, institutions, and organizations worldwide that have made distinguished contributions to environmental conservation and sustainable resource management. Eligible candidates must demonstrate impactful work aligned with UNESCO’s environmental priorities, particularly within the context of biosphere reserves or related ecosystems, and showcase measurable results, innovation, and long-term sustainability in their initiatives. Nominations must be submitted through UNESCO Member States or accredited organizations, in accordance with the established nomination procedures.
