Thematic Call for Civil Society and Human Rights Organizations (Ecuador)
About
The European Commission has launched a thematic call under the Global Gateway framework to strengthen civil society organizations and human rights actors in Ecuador. The program supports initiatives that advance human rights, democracy, environmental protection, social inclusion, and sustainable development. Priority areas include defending the rights of indigenous peoples and nature, protecting human rights defenders and journalists, addressing violence and inequalities, and enhancing civil society capacities for inclusive governance and sustainable ecosystem management. Special emphasis is placed on women’s participation, citizen oversight, and policy dialogue related to water resources and strategic ecosystems such as páramo regions.
This call is part of the EU’s Thematic Program of Civil Society Organizations 2021–2027 and aligns with the Global Gateway Strategy to promote transparent, inclusive, and sustainable partnerships. Funding is available through two lots: Lot 1 (Human Rights) with grants ranging from EUR 400,000 to EUR 800,000, and Lot 2 (Civil Society) with grants ranging from EUR 1,000,000 to EUR 1,500,000. The total indicative budget is EUR 5,159,000, with EUR 938,000 allocated to Lot 1 and EUR 4,221,000 to Lot 2. Supported projects will contribute to strengthening democratic participation, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development in Ecuador.
