Apply for Early Childhood Education and Parenting Support Initiative (Algeria
About
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is inviting applications to strengthen early education, parenting practices, and child development for Sahrawi children in the Wilaya de Tindouf, Algeria, through the Educa a tu Hijo approach. The program supports vulnerable children and caregivers by promoting disability inclusion, gender equality, engagement of men and boys, and capacity building in early childhood development. Funding will cover community-based parenting circles, home visits, and demonstrations of low-cost learning activities for children aged 0–3, alongside the production of culturally adapted parenting materials in Hassanya and Arabic. For children aged 3–5, the initiative emphasizes play-based learning, inclusive practices, and piloting of community ECD-friendly spaces to enhance cognitive, language, socio-emotional, and school-readiness skills. Training and support for community facilitators, awareness campaigns, and collaboration with preschool structures are included to strengthen transitions into formal education. Expected results include improved parenting practices, enhanced developmental outcomes, increased school readiness, and stronger community engagement. Grants will support structured home visits, creation of ECD-friendly spaces, facilitator training, and strengthened links between community activities and preschool systems, with a focus on sustainable early childhood development outcomes in Algeria’s Sahrawi refugee communities.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants include organizations with proven capacity to implement early childhood development and parenting programs in humanitarian or refugee settings. Applicants must demonstrate experience in community-based education, gender equality, disability inclusion, and child protection. Proposals will be evaluated based on organizational capacity, alignment with UNICEF’s thematic priorities, ability to deliver culturally adapted interventions, and mechanisms for community participation and feedback. Preference will be given to entities with established presence in Algeria or partnerships that ensure effective implementation in the Wilaya de Tindouf.
