RFAs: Buried Asset Health Monitoring Innovation Project
About
The Water Research Foundation invites proposals to advance the use of asset health monitoring technologies for managing buried water infrastructure. This initiative focuses on identifying and applying emerging monitoring technologies to large-diameter and transmission pipes, conducting field verification, and developing practical guidelines that link monitoring data with pipe conditions. The program seeks to strengthen the management of buried assets by improving the ability to assess degradation, defects, and structural health, thereby supporting more effective operations and long-term sustainability. Projects are expected to identify available and emerging technologies, establish application procedures for large-scale infrastructure, and validate these techniques in real-world settings. The grant provides up to USD 250,000 in funding, with an expected duration of 24 to 36 months from contract start.
Eligibility
Applications are open to both U.S.-based and international entities, including universities, research institutions, governmental agencies, consulting firms, and other for-profit organizations. Proposals will be evaluated based on the applicant’s capacity to identify and apply asset health monitoring technologies, demonstrate field verification, and develop guidelines that connect monitoring data with pipe material degradation and operational conditions.
