2026 Call for Service Provider for Capacity-Building Trainings on Human Rights and AI (India)
About
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) invites proposals from qualified service providers to deliver two specialized, in-person capacity-building workshops focused on the human rights dimensions of artificial intelligence for companies, suppliers, and business partners in India. This 5-month assignment contributes to accelerated SDG achievement, reduced inequality through enhanced economic opportunities, and resilient, climate-smart development by strengthening institutional accountability. The program engages a total of 50 business representatives across two cohorts—targeting middle-management in Bengaluru for the first workshop, with the audience and focus of the second cohort determined in consultation with UNDP India and the JSB 2025 Global Coordination Team. Each workshop will run for up to two working days, potentially with Japanese translation support.
Eligible activities encompass comprehensive desk research on global and Indian regulatory frameworks (such as the UNGPs, OECD guidelines, EU CSDDD, and India's DPDP Act, 2023) alongside AI adoption patterns and employment lifecycle risks (including privacy, non-discrimination, and worker surveillance). The service provider will contextualize UNDP's Human Rights Impact of AI Assessment Toolkit for the Indian market, producing a practical guidance note, a detailed training methodology, and a facilitator's toolkit featuring customized curricula, scenario-based card games, and applied risk-mapping exercises. Additionally, the provider will design and administer pre- and post-assessment surveys to measure knowledge gains and inform future programming.
Eligibility
Applicants must be established service providers, research institutions, consultancy firms, or civil society organizations with proven professional expertise in business and human rights, artificial intelligence governance, regulatory compliance, and curriculum development within the Indian operating environment. Organizations should demonstrate a strong track record of designing and delivering interactive capacity-building programs for corporate stakeholders, extensive knowledge of international standards (such as UNGPs and OECD guidelines) and Indian data-protection frameworks, and the institutional capacity to complete all desk research, toolkit contextualization, and workshop facilitation within the five-month timeframe. Proposals will be evaluated based on the technical soundness of the proposed methodology, the depth of expertise of the core project team, the relevance of previous similar assignments, and cost-effectiveness.
