About

The Global Ecosystem-based Adaptation Fund (GEBAF) Medium-Size Grants Program supports innovative and scalable ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) initiatives that strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities and ecosystems to climate change impacts in ODA-eligible countries. Established to promote enabling environments for the implementation and expansion of EbA approaches, the Fund seeks collaborative projects that address systemic barriers to scaling adaptation solutions while generating practical implementation evidence and driving institutional change. Under this call, proposals should align with one of three priority themes: innovative finance solutions for EbA; EbA for human development and security; or operational synergies between climate, biodiversity, land, and disaster risk reduction agendas. Funding is available for projects that pilot transferable adaptation models, mobilize public and private investment, embed EbA within national frameworks and policies, and strengthen knowledge exchange and capacity building. Grants of up to USD 500,000 are available for projects with a duration of up to 24 months. Activities may be implemented in one or multiple ODA-eligible countries and should demonstrate catalytic potential, support investment readiness, and contribute to long-term ecosystem and community resilience.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs and INGOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), Indigenous Peoples’ Organizations, universities, research institutions, think tanks, and private sector companies with experience in climate change adaptation. Proposed projects must be implemented in ODA-eligible countries, and regional or multi-country initiatives are permitted provided that all participating countries are ODA-eligible. Government entities may participate as project partners but are not eligible to receive direct funding. Consortia and partnership-based approaches are encouraged, particularly those that promote shared decision-making, institutional strengthening, and meaningful engagement of local stakeholders. For country-level projects, at least 25% of the total budget must be allocated to local partners. Proposals will be assessed on their innovation, scalability, potential to remove barriers to EbA implementation, contribution to enabling environments and policy integration, capacity to leverage additional financing, and expected impact on ecosystem and community resilience.
