Sociology on Stage Program for Arts and Cultural Institutions

Grant Size $1000 to $10,000   ,   Closing Date

About

The Sociology on Stage program, established by the Kohli Foundation, supports arts and cultural organizations in integrating sociological perspectives into creative, performative, and cultural contexts. The initiative seeks to foster innovative collaborations between sociology and the arts, moving beyond traditional academic formats to make sociological knowledge accessible to wider audiences. Funding is provided for projects that highlight the social and cultural relevance of sociology, encourage dialogue between academia and the arts, and engage non-academic stakeholders. Eligible activities include dialogue events in partnership with theaters, museums, and art associations, as well as experimental formats that explore new modes of exchange between sociology and culture. Grants are awarded as lump-sum contributions, typically €2,000 per project, covering material costs, travel and accommodation, fees for external speakers or mentors, and expenses related to organization, documentation, and public relations. Funding is based on a cost estimate submitted with the application.

Eligibility

Applications are open to organizations affiliated with institutions such as universities, non-university research centers, sociological professional associations, non-profit organizations, and collaborative institutional partnerships. All projects must demonstrate a clearly recognizable sociological profile, ensuring that sociology remains central even in interdisciplinary or artistic formats.
