Submissions open for Discovery Research Grants
About
The March of Dimes (MOD) Discovery Research Grants program provides funding to support established researchers conducting translational studies aimed at improving maternal and infant health outcomes. The program focuses on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions affecting pregnancy and early life, with priority areas including spontaneous preterm birth and cardiovascular conditions linked to pregnancy. Research may cover pregnancy through the first year postpartum and can include human studies, population-based research, and human tissue-based investigations. Projects must demonstrate clear clinical relevance and potential to reduce maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. Each award provides up to USD 200,000 over a two-year period, inclusive of up to 10% indirect costs, supporting the full project duration. Awardees are expected to participate in program-related meetings, collaborate with other funded researchers and nonprofit partners, and engage in scientific and public-facing activities organized by MOD to advance knowledge dissemination and fundraising efforts.
Eligibility
Applicants must be doctoral-level researchers such as health professionals, epidemiologists, or social scientists affiliated with universities, hospitals, or research institutions. Researchers from nonprofits, small businesses, startups, and pharmaceutical companies are also eligible if their work focuses on maternal and infant health. The program is open globally, but applicants must hold a faculty or equivalent position and may not have another active MOD grant. Each applicant may submit only one proposal per cycle as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator. Evaluation will consider the applicant’s qualifications, institutional affiliation, and alignment with program goals.
