RFPs: Community-Driven Environmental and Sustainable Development Initiatives (Uganda)

Grant Size Up to USD 40,000   ,   Closing Date

About

The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP), implemented by UNDP Uganda under Operational Phase 8 (OP8), invites proposals from local organizations for community-led initiatives that address environmental challenges while improving livelihoods and generating global environmental benefits. Projects should contribute to one or more priority areas, including conservation of threatened ecosystems and species, sustainable agriculture and fisheries, food security, sustainable urban solutions, transformative growth and innovation, climate-resilient development, governance and partnerships, SDG integration, and advancing youth, gender, and disability inclusion. Grants of up to USD 40,000 will be awarded to support initiatives that strengthen community resilience, promote sustainable management of natural resources, mobilize green and climate finance, and deliver measurable environmental outcomes. The programme aligns with UNDP Uganda’s Country Programme Document 2026–2030, which emphasizes systems-thinking, innovation, and inclusive development, particularly for youth and women, while fostering digital transformation, governance reforms, and evidence-based policy support.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include legally registered community-based organizations, civil society organizations, and non-governmental organizations operating in Uganda. Applicants must demonstrate a proven commitment to environmental sustainability, community empowerment, and inclusive development. Proposals will be evaluated based on alignment with OP8 focus areas, capacity to deliver both local and global environmental benefits, and ability to integrate gender, youth, and disability inclusion. Strong consideration will be given to organizations that can mobilize partnerships, leverage financing, and implement innovative, practical solutions that contribute to biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.
