Open Call: Platforms for Design-based Learning Programme
About
The Platforms for Design-based Learning programme supports initiatives that enable children and young people to develop design skills through hands-on, design-based learning. The funding aims to broaden access to Dutch creative and design culture across disciplines such as product design, textile and fashion design, spatial design, creative coding, and visual storytelling. Priority is given to grassroots initiatives that respond to local needs, expand pathways into the creative industries, and strengthen opportunities for emerging makers.
Projects may target participants from primary school age up to 28 years, including beginners, self-taught makers, and those preparing for professional practice. Grants of up to €75,000 are available, with a total programme budget of €750,000. Supported projects must run for up to one year and begin no later than 1 April 2025. A portion of the grant may be allocated to organisational development within the scope of the call. Selected grantees will also join a community of practice for knowledge exchange during and after the programme.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants include platforms, organisations, and institutions delivering programmes in design education or creative participation. Makers’ platforms such as workshops and labs working with professional designers are encouraged to apply. Educational institutions cannot serve as lead applicants, though collaboration with schools outside formal curricula is permitted. Organisations already receiving structural national cultural funding or support for the same activities are excluded.
Applications will be assessed by an independent committee based on programme design, quality and role of designers involved, accessibility, positioning within the cultural ecosystem, and long-term sustainability. Funding decisions will consider the strength of proposals and regional balance within the available budget.
