Open Call for GEF Small Grants Project Proposals (Albania)
About
The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is inviting civil society organizations, community-based organizations, and other non-governmental organizations to submit project proposals under the Operational Phase Eight (OP8) Small Grants Programme in Albania.
The call focuses on biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, climate resilience, sustainable land management, restoration of degraded land, sustainable agriculture and agroecology, soil conservation and erosion control, chemicals and waste management, reduction of pollution from plastics, hazardous waste and persistent organic pollutants (POPs), air pollution reduction, promotion of circular economy practices, community-based waste management solutions, pollution reduction, sustainable livelihoods, and community-based environmental initiatives across the priority landscapes identified in the GEF-8 Country Programme Strategy for Albania.
The objective of the call is to identify and support innovative community-based initiatives that contribute to environmental protection while strengthening sustainable livelihoods. Projects should align with the priorities outlined in the GEF-8 Country Programme Strategy for Albania and promote practical, community-driven solutions to environmental challenges.
The implementation period for approved projects must not exceed 12 months. Applicants may request grants of up to USD 75,000, which will be converted into Albanian Lek (ALL) using the United Nations Operational Rate of Exchange (UNORE). Project proposals requesting funding between USD 50,000 and USD 75,000 must include mandatory co-financing.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must be legally registered civil society organizations under Albanian legislation for at least five years. They should demonstrate relevant expertise in the proposed intervention area, ensure that their organizational mandate aligns with the proposed activities, have experience managing projects of comparable scope and value, possess previous experience working with local communities and stakeholders, and provide co-financing where required.
Applications must include a completed Project Proposal Template (Annex A and Annex B), a certificate of registration under Albanian legislation, the organization's statute, CVs of the experts involved in project implementation, and documentation confirming secured co-financing through partnerships where applicable.
