Call for Applications: Fellowship Research Grant for Louisiana Cultural Heritage
About
The Fellowship Research Grant (FRG) 2026 supports scholarly research, documentation, and interpretation of Louisiana’s music, cultural, and artistic heritage through the use of collections maintained by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Archive. The program aims to advance knowledge and preservation of the cultural history of New Orleans and Louisiana by supporting projects that utilize archival resources, develop new primary-source documentation for future research, and contribute original scholarship related to the state’s artistic and cultural legacy. Successful applicants will receive a grant of USD 5,000 to undertake research activities that place the Archive’s collections at the center of the proposed work. Projects may include archival research, documentation initiatives, historical studies, cultural preservation efforts, and the creation of new research resources. The program focuses on Louisiana, particularly New Orleans, and supports scholars conducting research that benefits the understanding and preservation of the region’s heritage.
Eligibility
Applicants may be academic, independent, or community scholars from the United States or abroad who can demonstrate a significant record of achievement in their field. Proposals must establish the central importance of the Jazz & Heritage Archive collections to the research project and clearly demonstrate the need to work with archival materials located in Louisiana. Applicants are encouraged to consider related collections and research facilities throughout the state and to engage with the Archive regarding relevant materials that may not be listed in the online catalog. Only one application may be submitted per applicant, and incomplete or late submissions will not be considered. Applications will be assessed based on the applicant’s qualifications, the relevance and scholarly value of the proposed project, and the extent to which the Archive’s resources are integral to the research agenda.
