Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) Project Preparation and Project Grants 2026 Call for Applications
About
The Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) provides financial support for collaborative and innovative projects that strengthen sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) capacity in developing countries to facilitate safe trade. Two types of grants are available: Project Preparation Grants (PPGs) of up to US$50,000 to support feasibility studies, capacity evaluations, and project design; and Project Grants (PGs) of up to US$1,000,000 to improve food safety, animal health, and plant health systems in line with international SPS requirements. These grants aim to address specific SPS challenges that hinder market access, enhance compliance with global standards, and promote inclusive trade opportunities. Beneficiaries are expected to contribute resources, either financially or in-kind, to ensure sustainability. Applications must be submitted online, with the next deadline set for 1 August 2026. Selected proposals will be considered by STDF in November 2026.
Eligibility
Applicants must be based in developing countries listed on the OECD Development Assistance Committee’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) recipient list. Eligible organizations include government agencies, regional bodies, research institutions, and non-governmental organizations engaged in SPS-related capacity building. Beneficiaries are required to provide their own contributions, which may include funding, staff time, facilities, or other assets. Proposals should demonstrate technical soundness, sustainability, and alignment with SPS priorities linked to trade. Applicants are encouraged to consult other potential donors when preparing and implementing projects. Only complete applications submitted through the STDF online system will be considered.
