Global Public Health Awards for Early Career Investigators

Grant Size $100,000   ,   Closing Date

About

The Global Public Health Awards support early-career investigators in low- and middle-income countries who are advancing country-driven research on HIV and viral hepatitis (B, C, and D). This two-year grant program focuses on public health research, implementation science, prevention, and management strategies aligned with global sustainable development goals. Interdisciplinary research from fields such as economics, engineering, psychology, and anthropology is highly encouraged to help investigators generate evidence through manuscripts, presentations, or abstracts for future projects. The program will distribute a total of four awards, with each recipient receiving up to $100,000 to implement their proposed initiative. Eligible geographic regions include Africa, the Commonwealth of Independent States, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Eligible project activities must exclude interventional clinical trials involving patient drug administration, investigations into Gilead products, product comparison studies, or direct safety and efficacy evaluations.

Eligibility

Applicants must be junior faculty members, public health researchers, or post-doctoral students within ten years of receiving their terminal degree (MD, MBChB, MBBS, PhD, or equivalent) at the time of application submission. Eligible roles include post-fellowship positions such as Instructor, Lecturer, Assistant/Associate Professor, and Assistant Researcher/Project Scientist. Candidates must be employed by an academic research institution, hospital, or public health organization (such as a Ministry of Health) and be on track for a scientific or faculty appointment. Citizens, permanent residents, or temporary visa holders whose visas permit research for the full two-year period in the host country are eligible to apply. Evaluation considerations dictate that the host institution must formally accept the award's terms and conditions. Furthermore, proposals must feature a single principal investigator (co-principal investigators are ineligible) and demonstrate that the funding does not duplicate or overlap with any current or pending financial support, though it may fund a distinct component of a larger project.
