CFAs: Competition of Initiatives to Support the Fair Transformation of Coal Communities (Ukraine)

Grant Size $1000 to $10,000   ,   Closing Date

About

NGO NOVA Energia invites applications for people-centered initiatives that support the just transformation of nine coal communities in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine. The program aims to strengthen social cohesion, mutual aid, and resilience among groups affected by industrial transition, including coal workers and their families, people with disabilities, veterans, internally displaced persons, and older adults. It also prioritizes youth-focused projects that enhance leadership, practical and digital skills, informal education, and employment opportunities.

The competition encourages initiatives that promote economic diversification, socially beneficial reuse of post-industrial spaces, and environmental sustainability through ecological security, restoration, climate adaptation, and responsible resource use. Additional focus areas include improving accessibility, safety, and comfort in public spaces, as well as preserving local identity and industrial heritage.

Support will be provided to the 10 best initiatives, with resources valued between 140,000 and 200,000 hryvnias. Funds are not transferred directly to winners; instead, the organizer procures and delivers goods and services required for project implementation, based on agreed resource provision plans and partnership agreements.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include initiative groups of at least three individuals with a confirmed connection to one of the nine target communities, as well as legally registered civil society institutions with non-profit status operating in these areas.
