AI for Science and Safety Nodes Grant Program
About
The Foresight Institute is inviting applications for initiatives focused on building decentralized ecosystems that advance open, secure and human-aligned artificial intelligence progress.
The opportunity focuses on AI for Security, Private AI, Decentralized and Cooperative AI, AI for Science and Epistemics, AI for Neuro, Brain-Computer Interfaces and Whole Brain Emulation, AI for Longevity Biotechnology, and AI for Molecular Nanotechnology. The initiative prioritizes AI-first projects that use artificial intelligence as the primary driver of innovation and scientific advancement while supporting safe and beneficial technological evolution.
The decentralized network of Nodes is designed to support researchers and builders working on AI-powered science and safety initiatives. Selected projects can apply for grant funding, office space, and compute resources depending on their needs. Priority is given to projects that actively participate in person at one of the hubs, as collaboration and community engagement are considered central to the program.
Applicants are encouraged to build and collaborate within hubs located in Berlin and San Francisco. Participants will also receive invitations to workshops, events, and collaborative activities connected to their research areas. Eligible projects may additionally receive access to local private compute resources or dedicated compute budgets, particularly for privacy-focused initiatives.
The program supports projects that use AI to strengthen cybersecurity systems, improve confidential computing and privacy infrastructure, enable decentralized intelligence ecosystems, accelerate scientific research, improve forecasting and epistemic preparedness, and advance research in neurotechnology, longevity biotechnology, and molecular nanotechnology.
Funding under the program totals approximately $3 million annually. Individual grants generally range from $10,000 to $100,000. Higher funding amounts are typically directed toward AI safety-oriented projects, while comparatively smaller grants are available for longevity biotechnology and molecular nanotechnology initiatives.
Eligibility
Individuals, teams, non-profit organizations, and for-profit organizations are eligible to apply. For-profit applicants are expected to clearly explain why grant funding is necessary for their projects. Applications are open to projects aligned with the initiative’s mission of decentralized, AI-driven scientific and safety progress.
