Call for Proposals for Large Grants: Madagascar and the Indian Ocean Islands
About
The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) has launched a 2026 Call for Applications for Large Grants under the Madagascar and the Indian Ocean Islands (MADIO) Biodiversity Hotspot program. This funding opportunity aims to support civil society organizations in implementing impactful biodiversity conservation initiatives that protect threatened tree species, conserve priority ecosystems, and strengthen long-term environmental resilience across Madagascar.
Through this call, CEPF seeks to finance large-scale projects that contribute to the conservation of globally significant biodiversity while empowering local communities, research institutions, and conservation stakeholders to play a stronger role in environmental protection. The program places particular emphasis on safeguarding threatened species and habitats, promoting sustainable ecosystem management, and enhancing the capacity of local organizations to deliver lasting conservation outcomes.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants include non-governmental organizations, community groups, private companies, universities, and other civil society organizations (CSOs) legally registered and operating in Madagascar. Proposals must directly address the conservation of threatened tree species and align with CEPF’s strategic priorities for the MADIO hotspot. Applications must be submitted as Letters of Intent through the ConservationGrants portal; submissions via email or other mechanisms will not be accepted. Both new and existing portal users are eligible, provided they follow the required submission procedures.
