The Japan Foundation, Jakarta Small Grant Program provides partial funding to non-profit organizations in Indonesia and East Timor for arts and cultural projects that promote mutual understanding of Japan and foster cultural collaboration. Since its inception, the program has aimed to strengthen cultural ties and encourage appreciation of Japanese arts and culture, particularly among younger generations. Supported initiatives may include exhibitions, performances, film screenings, and collaborative workshops, with priority given to projects that expand professional networks, nurture future leaders in cultural exchange, and generate sustainable impact beyond one-off events.

The grant covers partial expenses such as transportation, honoraria, accommodation, research materials, promotional materials, and venue or equipment rental. The maximum contribution is IDR 50,000,000, and projects must be completed by January 31, 2027. Funding cannot be used for regular staff salaries, entertainment, office supplies, or costs unrelated to the project. Successful applicants are required to comply with reporting and publicity obligations as outlined in program guidelines.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are non-profit organizations, including universities, cultural institutions, and NGOs/NPOs based in Indonesia or East Timor. Projects must be institutionally managed and cost-shared. Individual and for-profit applicants are not eligible. Proposals solely focused on natural sciences, commercial or political activities, or those lacking a clear connection to Japan will not be considered. Applications must be submitted by email with complete documentation, and selected organizations will be evaluated based on project feasibility, cultural relevance, and potential for long-term impact.
