Open Call for Micro-Initiatives to Reduce Plastic Use
About
The BeMed Call for Micro-Initiatives (CMI) 2026 provides financial support for locally driven initiatives that address plastic pollution across the Mediterranean region. The program supports projects that are rooted in local contexts and led by organizations with a strong understanding of community needs and environmental challenges. Funding is available for initiatives focused on eliminating, reducing, and reusing plastics; promoting sustainable alternatives; raising public awareness; advocacy; research and data collection; stakeholder mobilization; and improving plastic waste collection and treatment systems. Micro-initiative grants provide up to €15,000, with BeMed financing up to 70% of the total project budget. Projects may be implemented over a period of 12 to 24 months, and approximately 10 to 15 initiatives are supported annually. The program is open across the Mediterranean region, with priority given to projects implemented in Albania, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Montenegro, Tunisia, and Türkiye. The call is typically launched annually between October and December.
Eligibility
Applicants must be legally registered organizations with the capacity to receive and manage grant funding. Organizations from all countries within the Mediterranean region are eligible to apply, although projects based in Albania, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Montenegro, Tunisia, and Türkiye receive priority consideration. Proposed projects should align with BeMed’s objectives of reducing plastic pollution and demonstrate clear local relevance, feasibility, and potential environmental impact. Applications must be submitted using the official application form and sent by email before the published deadline. BeMed may request additional information during the review process, and selected projects are announced following the completion of the evaluation period.
