The U.S. Mission to Yemen has announced an open competition for programs that support English language education, leadership development, independent journalism, and professional media skills among Yemeni youth and professionals in Republic of Yemen Government-recognized areas.

The priority areas of the program include English Language Education and Leadership Development, Countering Adversarial Influence and Strengthening Fact-Based Reporting, and Building Practical Digital and Professional Skills for Media Practitioners. The program focuses on advancing English proficiency, leadership development, American cultural understanding, strengthening investigative and fact-based journalism, expanding media partnerships, building digital and professional skills for journalists, and creating sustainable educational and media collaborations between Yemen and the United States.

The funding opportunity aims to strengthen U.S.-Yemen partnerships through educational and professional exchanges while promoting independent media and practical skill development. Programs are expected to connect Yemeni participants with American experts, institutions, and organizations through mentorships, workshops, virtual exchanges, and collaborative activities.

Under the English Language Education and Leadership Development priority area, the program seeks to improve English proficiency among youth, professionals, educators, journalists, and government officials through structured instruction and cultural engagement activities. The initiative also aims to establish long-term partnerships between Yemeni educational institutions and U.S. academic organizations.

The media-focused priority areas are designed to strengthen the capacity of Yemeni journalists and media organizations to identify adversarial influence, enhance fact-checking and verification skills, and improve investigative reporting practices. Programs are also expected to build sustainable professional networks between Yemeni media practitioners and U.S. or international media organizations.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include non-profit Yemeni or U.S. organizations, civil society organizations, think tanks, and public or private not-for-profit universities with relevant programming experience. Individuals, governmental entities, and for-profit organizations are not eligible to apply.

Projects must be completed within 18 months or less. Awards are expected to range from approximately $50,000 to $150,000, with a total available funding amount of $600,000 pending availability of funds.
