Call for Project Proposals: Cultures in Dialogue (Egypt and Netherlands)
About
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Egypt invites Egyptian and Dutch cultural organizations to submit proposals for unique and long-term cultural projects that strengthen cooperation between Egypt and the Netherlands.
The focus areas for this call include arts and culture projects that contribute to social and cultural development, (in)tangible heritage preservation, creative industries, sustainability, intercultural dialogue, and knowledge exchange. Objectives include supporting and empowering the Egyptian and Dutch cultural scenes, strengthening cultural exchange and intercultural dialogue, promoting sustainable preservation of (in)tangible cultural heritage, and strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and the Netherlands while enhancing the positive visibility of the Dutch cultural sector in Egypt.
The Embassy is looking for projects in fields such as cultural heritage, design, visual arts, performing arts, music, and film. Eligible projects may include artistic co-productions, workshops, training programs, knowledge-exchange activities, study trips, research-based cultural exchanges, creative industries initiatives, public events, festivals, and exhibitions. Supported costs may cover educational activities, capacity building, talks, lectures, public discussions, salaries and fees for project teams and artists, and equipment directly related to the project, while commercial activities and projects consisting solely of travel costs are not eligible.
Proposals should have a duration of 12 to 24 months, with projects ending no later than July 2028. Applicants may request funding from €50,000 to €100,000, with total project budgets potentially exceeding this amount. Realistic and well-justified budgets, fair pay, and demonstrated expertise of all project partners are expected. Applications will be processed within eight weeks of the deadline, with a possible extension of two weeks in exceptional cases, and not all proposals will be approved. In cases of partial funding or denial, applicants will be notified via email.
Eligibility
The call is open to organizations based in Egypt or the Netherlands, including artist collectives, cultural institutions, NGOs, and social organizations with a strong cultural component. Projects will be assessed based on quality and expected long-term impact, alignment with policy goals, budget justification, organizational capacity, and compliance with the legal framework. Special attention is given to interdisciplinary approaches, art-based interventions promoting sustainability, diversity, inclusion, and gender equality, as well as initiatives that actively engage youth, minority, and displaced communities. Priority is also given to projects that involve the general public or reach individuals with limited access to culture.
