Department for International Development (DFID)

The UK’s Department for International Development, DFID South Sudan is seeking applications for its program entitled “Girls Education South Sudan Phase 2”.

DFID South Sudan is developing a business case for a comprehensive education sector programme. This follows on from the 6 year Girls Education South Sudan (GESS) ending September 2018. This programme successfully led to a significant increase in girls registering and completing their primary education, supporting schools and the education sector to remain functional during the protracted crisis in South Sudan.

The new programme will look to build upon these successes and gains while providing extended, new and innovative support to children and young people.

The new programme will retain a focus on girls’ education and seek to extend its reach to adolescent boys and girls with integrated livelihood, educational and resilience building components.

It will also seek to build capacity and systems in the government education ministry with the intention of increased ownership of, and direct support to, the education sector. The project design will therefore reflect the need for significant stabilisation, pease building and development needs of South Sudan, with targeted interventions for particularly vulnerable groups – girls, marginalised youth and children and young people with disabilities.
