Call for Proposal: UNEP Small Grants Programme
من نحن
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is accepting applications under the Small Grants Programme (SGP) to support innovative, community-led initiatives that advance the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of marine and coastal ecosystems. The programme focuses on vulnerable coastal and island areas in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), particularly ecosystems such as mangroves, seagrasses, and coral reefs that are increasingly threatened by climate change, habitat degradation, and pollution. Funding is intended for field-based, results-oriented projects that demonstrate innovative or scalable approaches to ecosystem restoration, climate action through blue carbon ecosystems and carbon finance, and inclusive natural resource management. Proposed interventions should generate practical evidence, support replication and policy uptake, strengthen community livelihoods, and contribute to biodiversity conservation, poverty reduction, food security, and diversified income generation. Projects are expected to deliver measurable ecological and socio-economic outcomes, incorporate robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning mechanisms, and promote gender equality, youth participation, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, and inclusive governance. Activities should align with the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and global biodiversity targets, while integrating conservation and restoration efforts into local development and livelihood systems. Grant size and project duration should be as specified in the official call guidelines.
معايير القبول
Applicants must be community-based organizations (CBOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), local or national non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government institutions, or other regional not-for-profit entities that work directly with coastal and island communities in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Priority will be given to community-based organizations and local NGOs serving as direct implementing partners. Eligible proposals must demonstrate strong community leadership, meaningful participation of women, youth, and Indigenous Peoples, and a clear commitment to conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of marine and coastal ecosystems. Applications will be assessed based on their innovation, scalability, potential for replication, alignment with programme priorities, expected ecological and socio-economic impact, evidence of inclusive governance, and ability to influence policy or attract future public or private financing for broader implementation.
