Pure Ocean is offering grants to support innovative applied research projects based in mainland France or its overseas territories that contribute to the protection of marine ecosystems and biodiversity.

Pure Ocean, established in Marseille in 2017, is dedicated to supporting innovative applied research projects that address the urgent need to protect fragile marine ecosystems and biodiversity. The fund also raises awareness of ocean issues through conferences and sporting events.

The 2027 call focuses exclusively on projects based in mainland France or its overseas territories, including the French Atlantic coast, Mediterranean, French Southern and Antarctic Lands, and overseas territories in the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Pacific. Projects must address at least one of the four Pure Ocean Challenges: understanding and tackling marine pollution at the source, protecting biodiversity and restoring degraded marine ecosystems, building resilience and adaptation to climate change, or improving understanding of the ocean system.

Selected projects will receive up to €40,000 per year for a duration of one to two years, with a maximum of €80,000 for two-year projects. Support for certain projects may be renewed at the discretion of the Scientific Committee.

Only non-profit organizations such as universities, research institutes, and NGOs are eligible to apply, though collaborations with private sector entities are permitted. The funding cannot be used solely for awareness-raising, clean-up initiatives, events, art, advocacy, or training projects, and for-profit or promotional projects are excluded.
