The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) has launched its 2026 Call for Letters of Inquiry for Large Grants to strengthen biodiversity conservation in the Mediterranean Basin. Grants ranging from US$50,000 to US$180,000 will support initiatives that protect ecosystems, enhance community engagement, and promote sustainable practices across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jordan, Lebanon, Montenegro, Morocco, North Macedonia, Palestine, and Tunisia. Projects must align with CEPF’s strategic directions and may include activities such as conservation planning, capacity building, and community-based resource management. Funding cannot be used for land purchases, involuntary resettlement, activities that harm cultural heritage, or initiatives that negatively affect Indigenous Peoples without their broad support. Applicants may submit multiple proposals under different strategic directions, though only one grant will be awarded per organization under this call.

Eligible applicants include non-governmental organizations, community groups, universities, and small private enterprises legally authorized to receive charitable contributions under national law. Applicants must hold their own bank account and demonstrate legal capacity to manage funds. Individuals are not eligible to apply directly and must partner with civil society organizations. Government-owned enterprises or institutions may apply only if they are legally independent, authorized to receive private funding, and free from sovereign immunity claims. All applicants must comply with CEPF’s safeguards and requirements to ensure responsible implementation.
