The IBRO/Dana Brain Awareness Week Grants 2027 (BAW 2027) support public outreach and awareness initiatives that enhance understanding of the brain and neuroscience research in countries outside Europe. As part of the global Brain Awareness Week campaign, the program seeks to increase public enthusiasm for brain science and demonstrate the relevance of neuroscience research to everyday life. Grants support activities that engage diverse audiences, including students, educators, policymakers, media representatives, and the broader public through educational events, advocacy efforts, and community outreach. The initiative places particular emphasis on improving brain health awareness in regions with limited resources and low public exposure to neuroscience, while encouraging interdisciplinary approaches that explore the ethical, legal, and societal dimensions of neuroscience research. Proposed events may be organized in any non-European country and must take place during 2027. Although activities are not required to occur during the official Brain Awareness Week period, they must contribute to and promote the campaign’s objectives. Supported projects should reflect principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in line with ALBA Network guidance and comply with IBRO visibility requirements. Grants are available for up to USD 1,250 per project.

Applications are open to individuals and organizations planning to host Brain Awareness Week-related outreach activities in countries outside Europe. Proposed projects must be conducted in 2027 and clearly align with the goals of the global Brain Awareness Week campaign by promoting public understanding of neuroscience and brain health. Applicants are expected to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles consistent with the ALBA Network’s recommendations for inclusive events and to follow IBRO visibility guidelines. During the review process, consideration will be given to the project’s potential to engage broad and diverse audiences, strengthen public awareness of neuroscience, address knowledge gaps in underserved communities, and effectively communicate the societal value and impact of brain research.
