The Advancing Investigative Journalism in Ukraine through U.S. AI Innovation (AIJ-UA) 2026 program supports Ukrainian media organizations in strengthening data-driven and AI-enabled journalism. The initiative focuses on investigative reporting, data journalism, artificial intelligence, open-source research, cybersecurity, and the responsible use of emerging technologies.

The program aims to build the capacity of journalists and newsrooms to deliver high-quality reporting on economic development, reconstruction, and investment using modern tools and skills. It will provide targeted support to regional and frontline media outlets, helping them address wartime staffing challenges, enhance investigative reporting, and improve coverage of local economic development and recovery efforts.

By expanding access to independent sources of information and promoting the responsible use of U.S.-developed AI technologies, the program seeks to strengthen Ukraine’s skilled journalism workforce. The total estimated funding is $100,000, with individual awards ranging from $30,000 to $100,000.

Eligible applicants include Ukrainian registered non-profit media organizations and independent media outlets, as well as think tanks, civil society organizations, and NGOs operating in the media sector. Applicants must demonstrate capacity to implement projects aligned with the program’s objectives and commitment to responsible journalism practices. Proposals will be evaluated based on organizational capacity, thematic expertise, and alignment with program goals.
