Applications Open for Audience-Engaged Journalism Grants
من نحن
The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) invites legally registered media organisations from ten Balkan and Visegrad countries to apply for grants, training, mentoring, and access to digital tools that strengthen audience-engaged investigative journalism. The program supports reporting that places communities at the centre of the journalistic process, encouraging citizens to contribute information, experiences, and insights that help uncover overlooked public-interest issues and amplify underrepresented voices.
Funding is available for original investigative or in-depth stories that foster community participation, cross-border collaboration, crowdsourced information, and stronger relationships between newsrooms and the public. Grants of up to €4,700 are offered for national, regional, or local projects, while cross-border collaborations involving at least two media outlets may receive up to €9,400. Supported activities include audience-engaged reporting, community-driven investigations, and coverage of issues affecting women, young people, national and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ communities, and other marginalized groups.
