The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) invites applications for its Collaborative Research Program 2026, supporting teams of two or more scholars undertaking significant projects that advance knowledge of American history, culture, or Western civilization. The program fosters scholarly collaboration to address important humanistic questions and produce interpretive outcomes such as manuscripts for publication, digital projects, or international research partnerships.

Awards range from $1 to $250,000, with an estimated total program funding of $2,500,000. Projects must pursue substantial research questions and lead toward a tangible scholarly product. There is no cost-sharing or matching requirement.

Eligible applicants include public and private institutions of higher education, federally recognized Native American tribal governments, city or township governments, state governments, county governments, special district governments, and nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status (excluding higher education institutions). For-profit entities, foreign organizations, and individuals are not eligible to apply. Proposals will be evaluated based on the significance of the research questions, the collaborative approach, and the potential to contribute meaningfully to the humanities.
