Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) invites proposals from African scientists to advance innovative research in malaria drug discovery. This call seeks to address critical challenges in antimalarial drug development by supporting projects that contribute to the discovery of new therapies while fostering scientific leadership within Africa. Funding will focus on research in medicinal chemistry, assay development, computer-aided drug discovery, and innovative biology approaches. Eligible activities include the design and testing of compounds with confirmed antimalarial activity, development of novel screening assays, application of cheminformatics or bioinformatics tools, and exploration of biologics or oligonucleotides for malaria treatment or chemoprevention. Grants will provide support for scientifically robust projects that demonstrate clear objectives, credible plans for further development, and potential impact on malaria control and elimination. Proposals must be submitted electronically using MMV’s specified templates, with additional guidance available on the MMV website.

Applications are open exclusively to African scientists whose research aligns with one or more of the stated priority areas: medicinal chemistry, assay development, computer-aided drug discovery, or innovative biology approaches for malaria treatment or prevention. Proposals must include supporting data, clearly defined scientific objectives, and a feasible development plan. Submissions must follow MMV’s required templates, including the African Letter of Interest and, where applicable, the target information template for biological targets. Evaluation will be based on scientific merit, alignment with priority areas, and the strength of the proposed research plan. All proposals must be submitted electronically to [email protected].
