CFAs: Agroforestry Value Chains for Forest Restoration in Karamoja (Uganda)
من نحن
The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) is supporting agroforestry value chains in Karamoja, Uganda, to restore forest cover and strengthen sustainable natural resource management. The programme focuses on forest conservation, restoration, agroforestry development, climate resilience, regenerative supply chains, community engagement, and inclusive livelihood development. It aims to contribute to Uganda’s forest and tree cover restoration through conservation, regeneration, and structured support for associations, consortia, institutions, and businesses to ensure continuity and sustainability of agroforestry activities.
The initiative specifically seeks to increase forest and tree cover in Karamoja by engaging communities in conservation and protection of natural resources, while promoting regenerative agroforestry supply chains that generate income and withstand climate change impacts. Beneficiaries include local administrations, public entities, research centres, civil society organisations, youth and women groups, producer associations engaged in reforestation and carbon credit schemes, and public or religious bodies managing land suitable for afforestation.
Environmental protection and social inclusion are central priorities, with strong alignment to global biodiversity commitments. The programme integrates disability inclusion by reducing stigma and promoting equal participation. The maximum project duration is 24 months, with total funding of EUR 1,784,600 provided by AICS.
