IAU Calls for Innovative Astronomy Projects to Promote Sustainable Development
من نحن
The International Astronomical Union’s Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD) invites individuals, organizations, and interdisciplinary teams worldwide to submit innovative project proposals that use astronomy as a tool to address sustainable development challenges. The program supports initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including sustainable socio-economic development, science diplomacy and international collaboration, knowledge and skills development, reducing inequality, and the application of astronomy-based technologies. The call also encourages projects in flagship areas such as astrotourism for development, astronomy for mental health, and astronomy knowledge and skills for development. Selected projects typically receive financial support ranging from approximately €1,000 to €15,000 to implement pilot initiatives, community-based projects, and innovative solutions with practical development impact. The application process is conducted in two stages, beginning with a short concept proposal followed by a full proposal for shortlisted applicants, who will receive additional guidance during the second stage to strengthen their submissions.
