The DKMS Impact Grant supports early-career physician scientists from non-profit institutions in Central and South America, Africa, and South and South East Asia to conduct research or implement sustainable projects that improve access to hematology care and treatment. The program funds initiatives that advance the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and management of malignant and non-malignant hematological diseases, as well as projects that strengthen supportive care. Eligible activities may include generating actionable knowledge through research or implementing scalable and sustainable solutions that address local healthcare challenges.

The grant provides up to €120,000 over two years, with a maximum of €60,000 per year. Projects demonstrating significant progress may be considered for an extension of up to two additional years following a positive evaluation. Funding may cover personnel costs aligned with local salary standards, project implementation, consumables, infrastructure, communication and documentation, publication expenses, travel, and other project-related expenditures necessary to achieve the proposed objectives.

Applicants must be physicians in the early stages of their scientific careers, having received their medical degree within the last 15 years (after July 2001). Extensions to this requirement may be granted for applicants whose careers were interrupted due to family care responsibilities, disability or illness, or active community service. Candidates must have at least three years of professional experience in hematology or oncology, along with demonstrated experience in scientific research or strong project development skills.

Applicants must be affiliated with a local faculty or have a qualified academic supervisor, and their host institution must be a non-profit organization, such as a public hospital, located in Central and South America, Africa, or South and South East Asia. Institutions must guarantee the applicant’s employment for at least two years from the start of funding in July 2027.
