The EMKP Legacy Digitisation Grant Program supports individuals, communities, and institutions in preserving and digitizing records from completed research projects that document endangered material knowledge. With a maximum grant size of up to £20,000 for projects lasting up to one year, the program aims to safeguard vulnerable cultural heritage, promote collaborative research, and foster community ownership of knowledge, with a particular focus on communities whose heritage has been previously documented. Eligible activities include cataloguing and digitising records, purchasing necessary equipment, relocating materials to secure archives, implementing basic preservation measures, and covering travel and subsistence costs, alongside community engagement activities capped at £1,000. Funding cannot be used for institutional overheads, routine staffing and infrastructure costs, building works, physical conservation, extensive cataloguing, or archive management.

Eligible applicants include individuals affiliated with an appropriate host institution, recognized host institutions, and community organizations, with no nationality restrictions enforced for the Principal Applicant. Applications may also be submitted concurrently with an EMKP Documentation Grant provided both proposals focus on the same topic. During evaluation, proposals will be assessed based on how thoroughly they address critical ethical considerations—including informed consent, permissions, accessibility, and meaningful consultation with the source communities or descendants associated with the original research.
