Funding Opportunity for Anaerobic Digestion Research Projects
من نحن
The Water Research Foundation (WRF) invites proposals to advance research on improving anaerobic digestion processes and their downstream impacts. The program seeks to identify effective methods for intensifying anaerobic digestion to maximize methane production, volatile solids destruction, and biogas yield, while reducing footprint and expansion requirements. Research should characterize the impacts of intensification on digester kinetics and stability, biosolids properties, downstream solids processing, sidestream treatment, and resource recovery pathways, while defining acceptable biosolids feed parameters for downstream processes. The project will also assess regulatory considerations related to intensified digestion, including biosolids classification and compliance requirements, and provide guidance for utilities on operational design, economic impacts, risk factors, and implementation frameworks. WRF will provide up to $350,000 in funding to support projects under this call.

Proposals are open to U.S.-based and international applicants, including universities, research institutions, government agencies, consultants, and for-profit entities. Applicants must demonstrate the capacity to deliver high-quality research within the project scope. Under the WRF Timeliness Policy, researchers who are late on ongoing WRF-sponsored studies without approved no-cost extensions are not eligible to participate in new proposals.
